Panda Security Detects 100% of malware, According to AV- Comparatives

Panda Security has obtained a 100% detection rate on February’s Real-World Protection Test from the independent labs of AV- Comparatives. The Real-World Test is recognized in the industry for providing an accurate reflection of the protection offered by cybersecurity solutions readily available on the market

Panda Security obtained the highest possible score, topping the list of twenty other providers that also underwent testing.

The analysis, which is available here, takes into account the same infection vectors that a user might experience on any normal day (browsing websites containing malicious content or exploits, running a virus received by email, etc.). In this case, Panda Free Antivirus was able to detect 100% of the malware to which it had been exposed. The fundamental objective of the Real-World Test is to determine if security solutions are able to protect the system as it is exposed to an array of malware samples.

Panda Security, 100% Detection and Zero False Positives in AV- Comparatives’ Most Rigorous Test

“We are especially pleased with the excellent results obtained in the AV-Comparatives Real-World Test because they validate our efforts to offer our users the best protection against all types of threats in real conditions. We are fully committed to the constant improvement of our solutions in order to provide maximum security levels with minimum performance impact, being more aggressive towards threats the bigger the risk of infection” said Alberto Añón, Consumer Product Manager in Panda Security

This result speaks to the success of the set of technologies present in the company’s cybersecurity solutions, ideal for all types of users, private or professional, and for everyone from freelancers to large corporations.

Panda Security has developed its products in response to the rapid evolution of malware in recent years. In this regard, it offers the most effective response to threats like ransomware and proves to be the best ally in the prevention, protection and response to the latest attacks.

Multi-layered security approach battles Ransomware

From Locky to SamSam, JIGSAW to CryptoLocker, today’s ransomware variants can take down businesses with dramatic consequences.

Ransomware will prevent file access, web browsers, applications, and entire operating systems – holding the lifeblood of a business operation ‘hostage’ until a ransom is paid.

At AVG, we use a multi-layered security approach with multiple layers of inspection and testing to identify and eliminate a wide variety of malware, including ransomware. When accessing a file, our multi-layered security approach uses several different inspection and detection techniques, as detailed below, to determine whether the file is malicious.

This is reflected in our security technology engine powering our AVG Antivirus Business Edition and Internet Security Business Edition software solutions.

Simply described, the process includes these layers:

  • Files are first compared to any known variants in a malware database – both the metadata and content of the files are analyzed
  • Files are then tested in an emulator (a virtual computer)
  • Now that the file is running, its behavior is assessed using a variety of techniques, including Artificial Intelligence algorithms
  • Behavioral assessments occur in the AVG application and in the cloud, but they all work together behind the scenes and in real-time to determine whether a file is malicious
  • If the file is determined to be malware, it is quarantined, and AVG’s Crowd Intelligence feature updates all AVG software

We also regularly submit our security software to independent test labs. Results from these independent tests serve as more proof points to the effectiveness of our technology and multi-layer approach. Our latest round of testing by AV-Test.org earned a six out of six rating – the highest rating for protection. In a recent Real-World Protection Test by AV Comparatives, AVG scored a 99.8% detection rating.

It is difficult to predict and guard against everything hackers may throw our way, but in the face of constantly evolving threats, a multi-layered security approach is a smart strategy.

AV-Comparatives report: Avast takes the gold for Overall Performance

Avast was awarded the title of Top Rated Product for 2015 by AV-Comparatives.

Avast was awarded the title of Top Rated Product for 2015 by AV-Comparatives.

Recently, AV-Comparatives released their 2015 Summary Report, an important resource for anyone who is interested in security solutions and antivirus software. Avast had a few exciting wins in this year’s report, which we plan to build upon as we continue moving forward into 2016.

Firstly, Avast was awarded the title of Top Rated Product for 2015 by AV-Comparatives. In their report, AV-Comparatives writes:

“Avast is a Top Rated Product this year, receiving five Advanced+ awards in the course of the year, including both Real-World Protection Tests. . . We feel its scan-results dialog box is equally well suited to expert and non-expert users.“

In addition to being a Top Rated Product, Avast also won the Gold Award for AV-Comparatives‘ Overall Performance Test, as well as a Silver Award for the Malware Removal Test.

In describing their Overall Performance test, AV-Comparatives adds that Avast demonstrates a significantly lower impact on system performance than that of other products. This means that Avast doesn’t disturb you while you browse, work or play on your PC.

How to make your PC’s performance the best it can be

If you’re experiencing a sluggish computer, there’s several things you can do to improve your system’s performance.

  • Make sure your software is up to date. The most up-to-date software contains fixes and patches that makes it run at its best. Avast 2016 products have enhanced features and the highest detection rates to protect your computer from malicious attacks. Software Updater is a feature in Avast 2016 that helps you ensure that your programs are up to date.
  • Old hardware. If you try to install modern software onto your old computer, it could start running at a snail’s pace, because the hardware simply is not capable of running the software. Ideally, buying a new PC with a multi-core processor is the best solution. However if your budget does not include a new computer, then you could add more RAM.
  • Stick to one security program. It’s not advised to run more than one security program with real-time protection at a time. Please uninstall any trial software that came with your PC before installing different protection. You can find a list and instructions to remove here. We recommend that you follow the vendor’s instructions before proceeding with the uninstallation.

AVG achieves top scores from AV-Test and AV-Comparatives

Are there things in life that you can really say you are 100% sure about, I am sure there are a few but not very many.

In the last week here at AVG our virus research teams and engineers have achieved not just one great test result, but two. The AV-TEST results show that AVG achieved 100% detection of real-world malware and 100% detection of widespread malware. Then followed the AV-Comparatives Malware Removal report awarding AVG with the highest award mark of Advanced+.

Whether you are a consumer or business looking to make a decision on what Anti-Virus/Malware product to use, then independent results from internationally recognized testing organizations should help you make the right decision.

For businesses selecting the right product to stay safe is particularly important, in many cases you are not just protecting your company data but also the personal information that you hold about your customers.

The double 100% result from AV-TEST is particularly important as this shows that our products are protecting you without compromise whether the threat is new and only just appeared, as detailed in the real-time test, or whether it’s a known malware variant that is widespread.

I asked Andreas Marx, CEO of AV-TEST what the significance of the 100% result means, he said “Here at AV-TEST we understand that consumers and businesses rely on specialist organizations such as ourselves to test products they rely on for their security and protection. When a vendor scores 100% in both the real-time and widespread sections of our protection test, it provides a data point that allows consumers and businesses to make informed decisions. We congratulate AVG for achieving the 100% result in our August test.”

Detecting malware and stopping it from carrying out its malicious intent is important, but knowing that it has been completely removed from a device is also extremely important. The AV-Comparatives award for Malware Removal shows that we have excelled in this area too.

At an industry conference I asked Andreas Clementi, Founder and CEO of AV-Comparatives about the Malware Removal report and the AVG result, he said “An important factor for users of Anti-Malware products is not only its ability to detect malware but also its ability to remove the threat and all of the components that it installed. At AV-Comparatives we conduct an annual Malware removal test that shows a products efficiency to clean up after an infection, AVG has achieved an Advanced+ rating for 2 years in a row which shows great consistency.”

It’s important to understand that testing anti-malware products is undertaken and a point or period in time, so the results reflect the moment that these tests were carried out.

Of course our teams are motivated to continue with flawless detection results, and with the release of our new versions of our Ant-Virus range of products there are additional security features designed to provide improved detection. You can see more details in my article about our product release.

Indulge me in this moment of unashamed promotion of AVG and allow me to proudly acknowledge the commitment and dedication of the AVG teams that have delivered these awesome results, which they proudly develop to protect you, our customers.

Does Avast slow down my computer?

When your computer slows to a crawl, it is very frustrating. One of the worst things that people do when trying to restore the performance of their PC is to remove the security software. Getting rid of your protective barrier just opens you up to threats that could make things even worse.

So you know that you need a security product on your computer, but you don’t want any software to impact the speed or performance. That’s why an excellent choice is Avast antivirus products.

Avast got the highest rating for Performance from AV-ComparativesAvast provides high detection rates and good protection against malware, but it does not degrade system performance or annoy users by being resource hungry.

But don’t take my word for it.

AV-Comparatives, a well-known and trusted third party testing lab, recently tested 20 antivirus and internet security products. Avast Free Antivirus topped every single one of them – paid security suites and free antivirus protection – and received an Advanced Plus three star award for the May 2015 Performance Test.

Reasons why your PC may be slow

It is not always security software that is responsible for a slow system. Other factors can play a role, which means that with a few tweaks your systems performance can be improved.

Old hardware If you try to install modern software into your old computer, it could start running at a snail’s pace, because the hardware simply is not capable of running the software. Ideally, buying a new PC with a multi-core processor is the best solution. However if your budget does not include a new computer, then you could add more RAM.

For Windows 7 or Windows 8, you should use a minimum of 4 gigabytes of RAM. If you use Windows XP or Vista, switch to Windows 8.1 64-bit. Avast security products are compatible.

More than one security program is not good. It’s not advised to run more than one security program with real-time protection at a time. Please uninstall any trial software that came with your PC before installing different protection. You can find a list and instructions to remove here. We recommend you follow their instructions before proceeding with the uninstallation.

Make sure your software is up-to-date. The most up-to-date software contains fixes and patches that makes it run at its best. Avast has ended product updates for older consumer versions of Avast Antivirus. Versions 8.0.1497 and lower continue to receive threat updates but do not receive any patches or technical support. The latest version of Avast has enhanced features and higher detection rates to protect your computer from malicious attacks.

Clean out the clutter. Clutter from leftover files and registry entries, unneeded shortcuts, adware, toolbars, and bloatware can slow your computer down. Getting rid of the junk can bring new life to your machine.

If your hard disk is almost full you could transfer movies, images, and other infrequently used files to an external disk. For the best performance, you should leave 20% of your disk space free.
