[SECURITY] [DSA 3057-1] libxml2 security update
Monthly Archives: October 2014
FireHOL 2.0.0
FireHOL a simple yet powerful way to configure stateful iptables firewalls. It can be used for almost any purpose, including control of any number of internal/external/virtual interfaces, control of any combination of routed traffic, setting up DMZ routers and servers, and all kinds of NAT. It provides strong protection (flooding, spoofing, etc.), transparent caches, source MAC verification, blacklists, whitelists, and more. Its goal is to be completely abstracted and powerful but also easy to use, audit, and understand.
CVE-2012-5580
Format string vulnerability in the print_proxies function in bin/proxy.c in libproxy 0.3.1 might allow context-dependent attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) and possibly execute arbitrary code via format string specifiers in a proxy name, as demonstrated using the http_proxy environment variable or a PAC file.
CVE-2014-4586
Multiple cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in the wp-football plugin 1.1 and earlier for WordPress allow remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the league parameter to (1) football_classification.php, (2) football_criteria.php, (3) templates/template_default_preview.php, or (4) templates/template_worldCup_preview.php; the (5) f parameter to football-functions.php; the id parameter in an “action” action to (6) football_groups_list.php, (7) football_matches_list.php, (8) football_matches_phase.php, or (9) football_phases_list.php; or the (10) id_league parameter in a delete action to football_matches_load.php.
Ubuntu Security Notice USN-2389-1
Ubuntu Security Notice 2389-1 – It was discovered that libxml2 would incorrectly perform entity substitution even when requested not to. If a user or automated system were tricked into opening a specially crafted document, an attacker could possibly cause resource consumption, resulting in a denial of service.
Debian Security Advisory 3056-1
Debian Linux Security Advisory 3056-1 – Several vulnerabilities were discovered in libtasn1-3, a library that manages ASN1 (Abstract Syntax Notation One) structures. An attacker could use those to cause a denial-of-service via out-of-bounds access or NULL pointer dereference.
Debian Security Advisory 3057-1
Debian Linux Security Advisory 3057-1 – Sogeti found a denial of service flaw in libxml2, a library providing support to read, modify and write XML and HTML files. A remote attacker could provide a specially crafted XML file that, when processed by an application using libxml2, would lead to excessive CPU consumption (denial of service) based on excessive entity substitutions, even if entity substitution was disabled, which is the parser default behavior.
